Where I work I do the hiring. I got an application the other day where the guy put himself as his #1 reference. As previous employer, the only thing he wrote is himself. His only other reference was his wife. I wonder what his references will say about him. Take this as something NOT to do while filling out an application somewhere.

I just asked my mom, she used to hire people at McDonald'* about 20 years ago, and she was told that if people put themselves or their spouse as a reference, to toss the application. I bet this is a person that also checked "past criminal history" and put every speeding ticket or traffic violation, right?

Well, I could see two ways that could happen that could make sense.
Could be his first job, so he has no references. (or friends)
Or, could have been self employed.
Either way, could have picked someone he knew.

Of course his wife is going to give him a good reference. A professional reference would hold more weight.

applicant: "Dang. I knew I shouldn't have listed myself as a reference...".

Well, considering he put her down as a reference, I figured they weren't arguing at that time anyway.

between the time of filling out the app and getting the call, alot can change heck, minute by minute can be a bit sketchy

If you think you aren't arguing, she'll think you are. Guess what that adds up to...
