Default Wheel Hop

Prolly a dumb question, but what is wheel hop? I've never heard of it with our cars or on this forum all together. I've been researching Cadillac CTS-Vs and hear a lot of complaints about wheel hop.

someone correct me when im wrong but i believe its an alignment issue where 1 wheel ismoving in a slightly different direciton than the othe ronthe same axle and when the difference is too great one of the wheels will break loose form the gorund 'hop' back into possition only to cycle again, it can happen happen in turns too if the turning angle of the front wheels isnt right

You'd think a CTS-V would have a limited slip. :?

It can be found on FWD also... apparently Car and Driver blew up an Oldsmobile Firenza'* transmission with a few launches during performance tests back in the 80'*.

So pretty much its like when you go over bumps under heavy acceleration with the drive wheels causing them to chirp and jolt, thus harming the differential. Only when a car has problems with wheel hop its not from bumps rather a suspention not strong enough to handle the power. Am I somewhat right?
