What i'm doing on Homecoming saturday (9 PIX)
Taking pictures all day long!
Nikon D100 Digital SLR
Nikkor 24-85mm 1:2.8-4
Nikkor 80-200mm 1:2.8 (Damn fast for 200mm, but a magnifier is kinda necessary for football..)
Manfrotto 680B Monopod (personal equipment)
I'm shooting for the school paper. Finally a hobby that pays off, they had no one, and a few of my buddies and roomate write for the school paper. Word got out I have some skill with a lens, so they recruited me for sports, and various stuff for the paper.
Tomorrow is the "Taste of mankato" (pre-game @ stadium, restaurants give out samples $10 cover @ door) , then the Homecoming game, then volleyball game.

Not my camera respin.. Minolta? Not enough lenses/fast enough for sports.
I'm looking at getting a used Canon 20D myself though. And yes Sol, it'* very nice to shoot @ 200 MM with a 2.8 aperature. I'll use it for volleyball from the front row, solely based on that, as my normal zoom goes up to F/4 @ 80MM, and it'* too damn dark in there.
So far been hit by 2 footballs, a few players, 1 soccer and 1 volleyball, and dodged the hottest VB player on our team last night as she was diving for it way out of bounds
Pix, you want pix?
1. Obligatory mirror shot (and yes i'm petitioning for the Lenses to get cleaned when we dont need them)
2. Feature Story Shoot for our starting QB Ben King
3. Running around before the first Game of the season
4. Defensive End blitzing, got a sack IIRC
5. And 3 year old Nikon AF sux...
6. Wisconsin Osh-Kosk QB being sacked
7. Soccer duel
8. 2nd best forward for Volleyball
9. Best forward for Volleyball, played for a Major D1 team, but didn't like California..

Hey now, I'm not totally serious about the booo I love your Nikon F90 by the way, Frank. GREAT lens on it, felt great, handled great, did some research and apparently it retails for a good $600-700.
I don't have to contend with 3 year old AF, but more like 20 year old AF, my cam being the "original gangsta" of autofocus. It'* not that great, but it works.
As for low light, my lens of choice would be the Minolta 50mm f/1.7... AMAZING prime lens, I'm sure it'll give the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 a VERY good run if it doesn't beat it. My telephoto is a Sigma 70-210mm f/4-5.6 only, not great, but sharp when stopped down. My general walkaround is a 28-85 f/3.5-4.5...
