True...but as said before, Most schools with probably disapline the teacher for throwing it, but as for the assualt, the cops or a lawer is going to look at it like the student is kinda bonkers. Although the hazard of putting an eye out is there, its very remote. Now if the kid had a dissability or something wrong with him, thats a whole different ball game. But if I were that kid, I woulve thrown an eraser..

My Western Civ teacher would drop 2 textbooks on the desk from as high as he could reach, if the student wasn't slumped over the front. Sounded like a damned bomb going off in our laps. Each one of those things was ~800 pages or so.

He also threw a desk against the wall and broke the back rest off. XD

I dunno. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if he deserved it. But he got singled out. It'* not like the teacher was even yelling prior to doing that. It just came out of no where.
This isn't highschool with roudy teenagers.
It'* third year mechanical engineering students that are there because they made it that far without dropping out and want to be there.
To me, it was the wrong enviornment, and unprofessional

My calculus teacher from high school would spray kids with water if they slept in class.

Update:
The teacher wrote an appology e-mail. And said he would like to appologize in class. He said he was wrong and all.
I'm guessing he got yelled at real bad by the dean.
So that'* cool.

But if students start babbling during class time that disrupts the teaching session.

update2:
I talked to my friend and they made peace.
From what it sounds like the teacher did a 180 and is saying how he wasn't right to do that.
I guess the dean helped him turn around.
oh, and if your wondering what my friend was 'babbling' about. It'* about the project for that class that'* due tuesday.

I think that the prof just made a bad choice of objects to throw. Chalk, even if ti doesn't hit you directly in the eye, can put off dust that can sting like crazy.
That said, my 7th grade science teacher took delight in waking up sleeping students by hitting them with a sponge-ball soaked in ice-water. SPLASH!!!

I can't believe that some students will act like little girls. A chalk in the head isn't like a bullet. It can't do any kind of damage.
While in the other hand, those guys had the whole day to talk to each other anywhere and about anything they wanted.
During class, when the teacher'* talking, you're listening. Otherwise, ask for permission to go outside and have a press conference with your friends.
And that is because when you are asking a question to your teacher or if you're talking about something you don't understand, he doesn't turn around and start talking with another student. So you do the same.
