Sounds like maybe the timing belt jumped especially if it quit while driving. The belt will usually break or jump when you let off the throttle and then accelerate. Ask your friend if this was the case.
Does the engine spin over faster than normal while cranking?

she says it just quit on her on the highway, she doesnt know a lick about cars considering she bought this piece.. she put her trust in her grandfather which was obviously a bad choice.
From what I understand she was on the highway and it quit accelerating, and wouldnt start, they changed the battery and now it turns over but wont start, somethings not catching because its like it gets ready to start and you get all excited thinking its going to then in a split second it shuts off. I can compare it to like say you're driving an automatic and you know when its going to shift you can feel it.. but then it doesnt. lol

If the car wants to start, but doesn't, then it'* fuel. Either the fuel filter is all plugged up, she'* out of gas, or the fuel pump is dead/dying.
