I have been using IE for the longest time. Is mozilla firefox quicker than IE. Anyone know of any must have plugins for firefox? Is netscape still around? I just dont want to install another browser if its gonna be slow or not compatible with many web pages.

FF is decent. Its quick but takes a bit longer to load then IE which is probably caused by the update check, I never really looked into it. it works with 99% of all the sites I use. The problematic ones, offhand, for me are Time Warners PayExpress (online bill pay), and my works online access to its email system.

Plugins are hadled well, FF will ask you if you want to check for a plugin that a site is using and once permission is given, it will go fetch and install it all by itself. No problems with streaming video in any format that I've seen so far.

Page layout can be different on IE then on FF on a few sites I've been to.

Give it a try, you can always uninstall it.

I resisted Firefox for the longest time. Then I switched and I now I hate when have to use IE.
As far as plug ins, there are plenty of cool theses.
Also, I have YMail Notifier which notifies you when get a new yahoo email. Also, Auto Copy which automatically copies selected text.
For fun I use stumble which is a customizable feature that goes to random pages that you probably never would have seen otherwise, and also tab effect which just gives a neat effect when you switch from one tab to the other.

As far as quickness, I think Firefox is a bit more...streamlined in functionality. In the sense that the shortcuts and tabs make real good sense to me. When I'm using Firefox I rarely touch the mouse. Also, the plugins are very useful for people that frequent popular sites like myspace, you can disable media so that most of the ads and the annoying songs don't pop up.

I've been using FF for about the last year and absolutely despise IE.

Pretty much NEVER get pop ups with FF. Pretty much forgot they existed. Just the CarDomain problems mentioned in the other thread.
I think you'll be harpy with it.

Remember Safari is out for PC now Its the fastest browser that I use. Well I only use FF and Safari.

Pretty much anything beats using IE.

Myself, I use FF mostly and love it for the FireFTP and Web Developer extensions. I've also used Opera and Safari. Safari is faster, but not as useful. Opera is a bit clunky, but powerful, useful for web development. Neither of those handle the partial typing, then tab down to the site that you want thing like FF does though, and it annoys the heck out of me to have to use the down arrow. Down arrow is logical and all, but tab is so much easier. I'm not a bookmarks guy, they just take up screen space...

I've used all of the major browsers, except Safari. Found no noticeable speed difference with any of them at my end. And, since most advertisers have quit using pop-ups, opting instead for flash windows or pop-unders, no real difference there either.

I think most of the differences people see are psychosomatic, as we ar all being brainwashed into the "You must hate MS" camp.

I still run IE 6 with absolutely no problems with speed, pop-ups, malicious software, etc....
