Default Well HOWDY DOODY.

One of them FINALLY hit the database.

http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2 FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=wren&s2=% 22hewlett+packard%22&OS=wren+AND+"hewlett+packard" &RS=wren+AND+"hewlett+packard"

Of course, I won't see any of my patent engraved plaques until after I no longer work for HP.

Good Work!

I didn't read the whole thing but I assume that the patent is assigned to HP, as is standard practice in large companies.

I'm sure that it still feels kinda good to see your name attached to it.

Yup. There'* more following, and many more I worked on that i didn't get listed on. It takes years to get each one pushed through. I don't even want to know how many patent attorney'* HP employs. HP is typically pretty high up from year to year on the most prolific patent applying companies in the US.

Believe it or not, I successfully welded glass and aluminum with a laser as part of that one.

Welding glass to aluminum is the next best thing to Scotty from Star Trek inventing Transparent Aluminum.

It was tough. Took over two weeks of work to make it happen. So close for so long.......everyone wanted me to give up on it, but I knew I was close. I actually built the laser system that I used to do that one, too.

In fact, that same laser system engraved many of the WCBF awards for the last 3 years.

Hell, I do more with lasers than I do with the cars.

Laser work FUNDS the car work.

combine the work and put a laser on the roof of the zilla to zap rice

or better yet weld green paint to the unpainted hood

I actually have a few 'spare' lasers laying around at work that would fire for about 30 minutes with two 12 volt car batteries in series (28vdc is optimum). These lasers would melt a car tire in front of me. Aiming it would be a different matter altogether. Suckers are about 36" long.
