Welcome to school....damn it....
So... I started UTI monday and my class has benn doing this kind of workshop thing for the past two days and it has finally got on my nerves. Not only are they making me feel like im back in elementary school with their "color this car and paste it on a peice of paper to simulate your shop" but i am paying 36 grand to get my hands dirty, not play with markers and pictures. But the thing that really got me pissed the hell off is the people that got in there. I mean, i was in a group of 5 people and we were given a card that said "Engine turns over very fast and has no compression" I automatically think "Blown head gasket, burnt valve, bent valves from a broken timing belt or blow-by from bad rings" I ask my group and they all said the same thing with the same stupid look..."Im here to learn. i dont know a damn thing about cars except changing oil.." :o WHAT THE HECK DUDE!!!!??? HOW DID YOU GUYS GET IN HERE!?!?!?! I ended up getting the problem right and I..not ny group...presented the poster to the entire auditorium... this is too stupid. I know school is gonna be challenging later, but these guys got in not knowing how to read a micrometer. IMO, if I started school with this knowledge above them, once we graduate, i am still gonna be two or three steps over them, even if we get the same education.
ok.......im done bitching.....grrrrrr....

Just hang in there, it'll get better and hopefully they'll dump the kiddie stuff pretty quick. If not... Throw a fit at admin about the quality of their education. (I once got an entire semester credited back to me at Kent State University because I proved to the campus president that the professor didn't actually TEACH in the class, just walked in, put a problem on the board, and sat at his desk and ate doughnuts.)

Hang in there. Be patient..all I know is an oil change, and I would love the opportunity to get the education you are getting. I wish I would have had the chance to learn more about cars growing up, but I didn't.Just try to realize that those people at least have a desire to learn, and give them some credit for that. I am sure you'll get into more advanced stuff soon, and the less knowledgeable well either learn or drop put.
Either way, you win

And I agree, give it time and you should see the more advanced stuff..
Everything I learned I learned from an old Gearhead... Its amazing what you can learn by simply being there..

I agree with Don. I would have loved to have had someone to hang with and learn from.
Find one or two that are genuinely interested in learning, and help em out.

I just woke up... i talked to my instructor about testing out and he said he rather me not because he wants to make me "Student Of the Course" and the Class/shop Foreman... so basically, im gonna take a few under my wing and try to teach them what i know from my experience in addition to what the class teaches us. We are gonna start taking a vortec 4.3 V6 apart and measuring the parts with a .0001 micrometer to figure out the space between the parts that oil has to squeez through. i think i came up with about 0.0003" give or take a few ten thousands. anyways, im gonna stick it through and hopefully they will teach me more of what i need to know.
thanks guys for viewing my rant.
Eric.

Sounds like you are doing exactly like you should be. Help those folks out, the world doesn't need any more like me who don't know squat about motors.
