Default Volvos aka Bricks

So i am looking for a car, and cant seem to find a decently priced Bonneville. So looking and I came up on a 1998 Volvo S70 T5. It looks like it was taken care of. I'll try later to get up the ad. But does anyone have any previous experience with Volvos. If so thanks for any advice.

Edit: The price seems a little high, but if they dont want to negotiate, my money does not care where I spend it.

The nickname says it all. They are truly BRICKS. I know a guy near me that has owned nothing but Volvos, and he keeps them until they get around 350-400,000 miles, then sells them. I say get it if you can't find a cheap Bonne. You won't be sorry.

I myself almost bought a '95? 850T 5 speed before I got my '92. It was very tempting, but I couldn't do it.

I've owned several older (80 -90s) Volvos. Loved em. Expensive to fix, parts are hard to come by but comfortable and easy on gas. Except the automatics, they lose about 20% gas milage compared to a 5 speed standard tranny.

The last one was an '89 740 Turbo manual 4 with od, consistently got 35 mpg unless I was playing around. At 200 kph you could watch the fuel gauge dropping.

I bought them cheap with high mileage and drove em till they started costing me money, usually around the 400,000 - 500,000 kilometer range.

I know a Volvo mechanic with over 30 years experience.
About his only warning is to stay away from the V6 motor.

I got excellent service out of the two I have owned.
I have been in a lot of different cars and I have never felt better brakes than the stock ones in my old 244GL. Not even my friend'* brand new BMW.

My uncle has a s80 T6 and no way are the brakes better than my BMWs. Good but not better thats for sure I have driving it enough times to tell.

The T5'* are pretty quick, with 236hp out of the turbo 5-cylinder. Some quick googling about tells me that they're good for high 14'* in the quarter mile, stock. Parts/Maintenance costs are going to be more than a Bonneville, but after looking about on Rock Auto it'* not an arm and a leg. Personally I prefer the RWD 4-cyl Volvos, which are more reliable and simple. But the 850/S70 are nice.

oh, and did I mention the exhaust note is to die for?

I can't say I've driven a S80, but I've driven a 2008 model 335i when it was brand new and several times since it has been "broken in" and the brakes were better on both my 1975 164E and my 1984 244GL. Not that the 335i has bad brakes at all, just my Volvo'* were better.
