Yay!!!!! LOL, Sounds like you indeed did have a virus, not trojan. Are you going to just forget the past files in it and go? The trojans in mine are merely half cut out and remaining junk "contained". I'm going to get all my junk transferred to my external and figure might as well go 7 myself since I'm going to have to reformat anyway and my pics etc. are recovered anyway.

Honestly John, I've been considering XP instead of 7. I don't have any software that will only run on 7, so whats the point?!

This is remarkable. I can't install Windows7 because I don't have a driver for the SATA. I can't find the driver on HPs website either. Just unbelievable. Ubuntu installed with no problems whatsoever!

And cannot believe how much trouble I'm having just installing Win7. I would install XP but there is not driver support for my laptop. Here is the manufactures support site for my laptop, you can see there are no drivers for the AHCI SATA hdd.

I've also tried downloading various drviers that I found on google. I am completely lost. I have to have windows for school.

Here'* what I came up with. It'* Ubuntu 10.10 with Windows XP MCE 2005 running on top of it. I tried to install Win7 but I don't have a 32bit copy for the emulator.

For future installations, I would suggest using seperate partitions for your windows and linux operating systems. Ubuntu will still read your NTFS partition so you can make its partition smaller and store the media and other things you want shared between the two on the NTFS partition.
I usually take it a step further, and have a separate partition for each operating system, then a shared data partition. This way, if you get a virus in windows, you just blow away the windows partition and reinstall. Ubuntu won't be damaged and neither will your data partition.
The Windows 7 not detecting your harddrive problem has bugged me as well. Usually the motherboard manufacturer will have some type of driver for you whether its called the raid driver, sata controller, etc. I didn't look at yours since I'm on my phone, but I would assume they have something available just maybe not named what you would expect. Try throwing them all on a usb drive and you can have it search the drive for compatible drivers I believe.
Windows 7 has been much more reliable for me than Windows XP and if you leave all of its security features enabled it is less vulnerable to viruses.. I was reloading XP atleast once a year to keep things flowing smoothly. Have yet to reload my Windows 7.

) and none of them worked. The manufactured wants me to spend $15 on a couple of restore DVDs.
