And sadly without real help or intervention, it won't be just the lost of the money. This kind of money dispersed without guidance can lead to a far more serious consequences including death. I feel for your situation. I imagine you see far to much of it.

This song reflects my observation of where/ how the family lives:

She got mad because I YouTubed the song, got a wild hair up me azz. I went into the bedroom, fired the Marshall up and started banging out the Rhythm to the song with full distortion. She'* 53. not a fan of rock, and never been down that Dirty Boulevard, if ya know what I mean.

Guns kudos to you! It may be your job, but your passion has come screaming through and your integrity is well noted.
I think the best bet would be to negotiate a buy back on the vehicles for pennies on the dollar or a repo with a negotiated payment to clear the books.
With 400K still to be paid and taken into consideration the family history, I'm thinking that to best help them and protect them from themselves a trust fund with guardian would be the best. The guardian can make all financial decisions for the family as well as issue monthly stipends.
Or...prepare yourself to feel like crap when they go back to their past ways.
