Default Urban Myth - Stuffing An Exhaust Pipe

I think we've all heard that stuffing potatoes into an exhaust pipe of a car will destroy the exhaust system or damage the motor. This is actually pretty entertaining..... Castrol

LOL!, they all shot out like as if in a "spud gun". When we were kids we were told it was the potato. As the engine just starts to build exhaust pressure towards cylinder pressures, There isnt anything you can shove in not going to come back out. I wish they had a feedback button. I want to know about the ither one we heard as kids. Putting the bottle of heavy Karo corn syrup in the oil. Supposedly, the syrup will go to "hard crack stage" while the engine is hot, then crystallizes everywhere including in all the oil passages when it cools. Dont try this one at home. I think it has potential.........

Stuffing wet rags in a persons tail pipe will cause very hard starts and the car to stall repeatedly. Ask me how I know.
