Default Upgrading a T22?

I'm kind of in the dark ages with my thinkpad but I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade the processor?
Right now I'm working with a 700 MHz P III and 256 MB ram.
I recently replaced the motherboard because some power surging problem so taking the thing apart agian wouldn't be a problem.
I know I could get up to 512 ram but I was wondering if I could upgrade the processor to 900 MHz or 1 GHz? And If I am able to would I have to upgrade the fan as well?
Pretend that I could pick up the processor for cheap.

As long as the processor uses the same socket and the motherboard supports the chip, then of course. Just do some research ahead of time.

I've got an R51.

Go to http://www.lenovo.com/support/us and click on AutoDetect my system. Once you have that info, you can download and/or read a ton of info that should help you out

Thanks for the help guys.
I did some searching over on forum.thinkpads.com and found that I may be able to upgrade to the 1 GHz processor but its not a definite. Some motherboards it works on and others it dosen't. They make it seem like the only way to find out is to try. So, thats what I'll do.

I did some searching a while back, one I found out how easy these ThinkPads are to get open. I could upgrade to a better, used, laptop for the price of a new processor...

Taking it all apart really isn't that bad. I got the processor for $50 shipped.
I did get some ram too. Also $50 shipped. I'll have 384 once upgraded.
If I would have waited, I could have got both cheaper but I don't really think $100 was that bad.
