Default Trans-Am GTA Formula.

Im thinking about buying a 1989 Trans-Am GTA Formula for a summer car and just because i want a manual. Anyone ever drive one of these? The one im looking at is a 305 with Flowmasters, CAM, and some smaller mods. Its black with gold trim on the bottom and gold spoked rims, and T-Tops. Theres another one with a LT1 buts its about 1500 more....... Anyone know the stock 1/4 on one of these stock? Any thoughts?

Well its either that or buying a rolling chassis, id like a late 80'* style and rebuild the 454 we have out back (engine from dads old car). Id love to have a car with a 454 in it but i dont really have time to do a major rebuild specially with college and work.

Nice cars, headers and intake manifold/carb and they're back where they should be.

The formula and GTA models are nice for handling too.

Which one are you buying? The GTA Trans Am or the Formula? There could be a big diferrence. If its a GTA, it has TPI and the 5 speed (sticks came with the better cam, gave more HP over auto 5.0, plus the stick doesnt rob too much HP), its a pretty quick car, nothing real fast, but one of the faster thirdgens. Formula could have TPI or TBI, and TBI slooooooww, painfully slow with no mods other than motor swap for the cost effective way. Check out www.thirdgen.org good site, tons of info, but it is STRICTLY a tech only site. If you want to BS with other owners, check out 3rdgen.org, mainly a goof off site, but you may be able to get a few ?? answered there too. How much is it running ya anyways? I have had 2 thirgens, 84 Z28 5.7 and a 88 GTA 5.7
T-tops are nice for the summer as long as they dont leak

Its the GTA, Tuned Port Injection 305. It already has a performance cam and exhaust. I wish it was the 350 TPI but in 89 those didnt come with sticks for some reason.... Also i read somewhere that the 89 20th anniversary TA GTA ran a 14.2....?? Now how come a 305 is faster than the previous years 350? They didnt change much from what i can tell.

Ignore comments about stock Lincolns. Those are Granny cars. The GTA has class. Sounds like a fun ride. Just check the T-tops carefully. They're prone to leaking.

The 20th ann Trans am isnt even a 305, its a six banger, eh. (with a turbo charger) The TTA times were a little lower I think then that even, it was the fastest production car up until the LS1 or LT1 motor, dont remember which one. The stick with the 5.7, people say that its because there was too much torque for the T5 to handle with GM still wanting to warentee it. People have swapped over to the 5.7 with no problem. Sounds like a nice car, I say go for it if its the right price
