Tool Brand Poll!
I try to always buy Craftsman, sometimes I have to get cheap crap from Autozone though. My last experience with Autozone tools, a set of flare wrenches which spread open and wreck the fitting anyways, have me disgusted over the glut of junk on the market these days. Yes a set of Craftsman flare wrenches are on the short list 
However, I am thinking of working my way into some nicer, lifetime quality basic tools over the next couple of years as I can. Pick your brand and talk about it if you want!

I agree, if you aren't a ASE certified mechanic that owns a repair shop, don't buy Snap on/Mac tools. Yes they are excellent, but not worth the $$$ for a home mechanic. I own mostly craftsman tools, and never had a problem with them.

Definitely Craftsmen for the run-of-the-mill hand tools. They're good tools for farily cheap, and the lifetime guarantee is a godsend.
For more advanced stuff like torque wrenches, Snap-on is my choice.
Specialized tools I buy from whoever makes them.

I forgot to mention Klein, Cornwell, Matco. My work tools that I use daily, are Klein and Allen (look just like Craftsman though) some Starrett and my Fluke meter.
90 percent of my tools are Craftsman, just odds and ends from Autozone. This last go-round with these no name flare wrenches ticked me off though. I will probably stick with Craftsman, maybe Mac for a set of metric open end wrenches and some 3/8 drive sockets, since they are the most used out of everything.

We all know I use tools often. 
I mostly have Craftsman and Husky. Husky fell down a notch on my list when Home Depot stopped honoring the warranty in store. Sears and HD are both 1 mile from my home and when a tool breaks..you need a replacement quick.
Snap On/Matco are great tools.. can you justify the cost? A Sanppy or Matco wrench are not going to spread open like a craftsman or husky may..
Personally..I enjoy working wth Snap and Matco more than craftsman or Husky..
