Tip for Tuesday 22 OCT 2013:

When changing the fluid in a GM AWD transfer case it is recommended to make sure you can remove the fill plug prior to removing the drain plug. You don’t want to drain the fluid and then find out you can’t fill it back up

Is that 1 tip per person, per day, or is it 1 tip per forum, per day?

How about 1 tip per person per day.

Tip of the day Wednesday 23 October 2013:

With winter approaching, find a sale on windshield wiper fluid and purchase enough for the entire winter season. Many stores run out of wiper fluid after a storm or snow meltdown, making the purchase of windshield wiper fluid expensive and may require trips to different stores to locate fluid. Stock up now and "forget about it".....

Rock Auto has a clearance sale on windshield wiper blades. I bought beam style Trico wipers for $3.81 each, and winter blades for the Bonneville for $1.91 each. Paid $6.60 for shipping, but once you order the first blade shipping costs didn't go up if you ordered more. I ended up getting 12 blades (for various vehicles) for $48, including shipping.

If you need new blades for the winter, this is the best pricing I have seen.

Tip for Thursday 24 October 2014:

With winter approaching, keeping a winter survival kit in your car can be a good thing.

Possible items to include:

Several blankets and warm clothing, such as parka, boots, long underwear, heavy socks, mittens, ski mask.

A source of heat, such as a multiple wick candle can heater. It is best to also have matches to light your candle, because some lighters won't work in extreme cold.

Water and a metal container suitable for melting ice or snow to be used for drinking water.

A radio and flashlight with extra batteries.

Food, such as hard candy, jellybeans, raisins, nuts, candy bars, dehydrated fruit, and jerky.

Something to read to help keep you awake.

A folding cup.

Toilet tissue.

Bright red or orange cloth and whistle to signal help.

Nylon rope.

Tip for Friday 25 October 2013:

Winter often requires the maximum flow of electric (amps) to the starter to turn over a very cold engine sitting overnight.

Now is a good time to remove your battery connections and clean them. Corrosion is often not visible when the connectors are mounted to the battery on GM side mount batteries.

Corrosion is like a clog in a pipe. As a clog in a pipe reduces the flow of water through a pipe, battery terminal corrosion reduces the amount of amps that can run from the battery, through the cable to the starter.

Clean those battery terminals before it turns to cold!

Tip for Saturday 26 October 2013:

Don’t fill up if you see the tanker

If you happen to see a gasoline tanker filling the tanks at your local gas station, come back another day or go to a different station. As the station’* underground tanks are being filled, the turbulence can stir up sediment. Sediment in your gas can clog fuel filters and fuel injectors, causing poor performance and possibly necessitating repairs.
