Tax questions
So first I used to live in Ohio and work for Old Navy, then I moved to Michigan and transferred my job to gap (same company). I received my w-2'* today and filed today, I noticed that I only received Ohio w-2'*. But I filed for both Michigan and Ohio as a resident of Michigan. The company never recognized my moving between states, So I filed for both and I owe Michigan exactly what I'm getting from Ohio... Do i need to amend anything? My mom called me telling me I did it wrong and I can go to prison for it and I'm starting to freak out.

Your not going to prison, they only prosecute/get touff if they have reason to think you did something fraudulently. If you actually made enough while in Michigan (Each states minimum for State Income Tax is different) and you owe, you'll have to pay it yourself and wait for the Ohio refund. One of the reasons your getting the refund is it'* money that should have went to Michigan. In the meantime Call GAP Corporate and make sure your State Tax withholding is indeed now going to Michigan. Did you fill out new paycheck paperwork at the current store? If not someone there dropped the ball and you need to get it corrected.

on the subject of taxes, with the wife and I both being self employed working from the house can I write off ammo/firearm purchases on the premise of something like office security expense?

My experience (Alot) has been:
A) You can write any dam thing you want off on a tax form.
B) If it catches the eye of a reviewer it will hit the "in basket" of an IRS Auditor and look forward to every step you take and an expense itemized by you scrutinized for years to come. They don't play, and neither should you. F up, and it isn't worth the little you tried to get away with.

.....Funny thing about the internet... While I scan people and IP'* that join our Forum to keep up with spammers (and why you won't see many slip through the cracks here at GMF) There is alot of interesting servers I come up with. A few members come form GM corporate servers. Various Police Agencies. Even seen two members that have logged in from irs.gov servers in recent times. Never assume your in your living room here. You may end up a "fail" story on a blog.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!..... um...NO! You can deduct a good part of the house'* expenses and an allotment for what you would spend leasing/buying a place to do business. You really nned to talk to someone in person who has relative real experience/advice to guide you. Eachj case is different in ways a forum couldnt cover.

Well I'm just paying Michigan what I should owe them so there shouldnt be any issue, right? Should I go amend it later or just deal with it and not mess up next year?

Just fill out the Michigan form, send payment and a brief explanation. Then get a number at work to call GAP Corporate and explain/make sure they have it right.
I'm assuming the W-2 you got reflects all moneys they deducted for State Withholding. It sounds to me that when you transfered, someone dropped the ball in Michigan and didn't prompt Payroll to reassign you to Michigan. They prolly just thought it would happen but didn't.
Edit: You may get a Ohio letter next year about it, if so, just mail them a copy of your Michigan State Income form you file.
