Sunbird Computer Chair

2 Attachment(s)
I know what you are thinking. I got a crappy seat from the junkyard from a sunbird and made a computer chair out of it. LOL Kind of...

The car I got the seat out of.

I was looking for leather grand prix seats, but I wasn't finding anything that was really nice. So I stumbled upon this beautiful white leather seat in a sunbird that only had 57k miles on it.

Right now, I am still working on mounting it to the base of a computer chair. But when I am done I'll post a picture. The seat is really comfortable to sit in.

rjolly87 05-23-2011 08:45 PM

That is the coolest looking sunbird I have seen! Wow!

You should make another one from the other seat. That would probably fetch some money!

94 olds vert 05-23-2011 09:13 PM

I thought about grabbing both of the seats, but the driver side one wasn't perfect like this one is. It had a couple of minor scuffs. This one is the passenger side.

I'd imagine that this could be worth a good amount of money. My old computer chiar I paid over 200+ dollars for. And this chair blows it out of the water.

Buick96 05-23-2011 09:21 PM

that is awesome, when i get my own place i want to make furniture out of rear seats of classic cars

ymmot04 05-23-2011 09:22 PM

Sweet project. I've been in the market for a new computer chair, but haven't made the purchase yet. Looks like you definitely took the initiative and made one cool chair.

94 olds vert 05-23-2011 09:22 PM

Thanks! That would be awesome. I might do that for a couch in the basement. Since I had to toss the old one when it flooded.

SignOfZeta 05-23-2011 09:34 PM

Very nice!

Have you heard of anyone turning a rear bench seat into a couch? That'd be tougher because they're usually two pieces.

94 olds vert 05-23-2011 09:43 PM

I've never seen one done, but I'm sure it could be done. Whatever base you make for the bottom cushion would need to have a backing that goes up for the top cushion of that seat.

Badazzgta89 05-23-2011 10:11 PM

Looks really nice!
I used a seat out of an old peterbilt i had and kept the air ride on it!

Badazzgta89 05-23-2011 10:12 PM

Next a fiero seat would be cool with the speakers in the head rest!

94 olds vert 05-23-2011 10:39 PM

Thanks!

A fiero seat would be cool too, there is a couple at the local yard.

Someone with a lot of free time, power tools, and rusted-out Bonnevilles could make a small fortune here.

Danthurs 05-23-2011 11:19 PM

That looks cool. You should find a seat from a Fiero. They have speakers built in to the head rest.

2k2cse 05-23-2011 11:23 PM

I think you could make a bed out of an old Bonneville trunk..and that Caddy too. I'd like to have a couch made from the back seat of a mid 70's Lincoln.. but not one that's shaped like the back of the car, just the seat, and maybe the arm rest/door/side panels from the car cut to look good.

sseidriver97 05-24-2011 01:06 AM

Im gonna make a bed out of a truck bed haha

94 olds vert 05-24-2011 02:31 PM

That'd be awesome. Make coffee tables from rims and put glass on top of them.

sseidriver97 05-24-2011 04:14 PM

Well, post "ruined engine block" in the Wanted section. I'm sure someone has one, or two... or three.

2k2cse 05-24-2011 08:57 PM

I don't think I'd be able to find one that nice though.. lol

It still won't be easy finding a v12.. although I wouldn't mind a 454ci :D

Thank you! And it is.

Buick96 05-25-2011 12:32 AM

I think id rather have a fully build v12 sitting in my living room

GXP Venom 05-25-2011 01:15 AM

Man, that IS amazing!. Talk about getting out of the box with ideas. I'm pretty sure a market would be there for upscale seats like this.

94 olds vert 05-25-2011 12:53 PM

Thanks! I was thinking about making and selling these. I did a search on my local craigslist and found office chairs that were nothing special with an asking price of 100+ dollars. I'm sure I could make a little money on the side with these.

Buick96 05-25-2011 01:36 PM

make me one :P

94 olds vert 05-25-2011 02:30 PM

LOL

My buddy wanted me to make him one, but its raining and I don't want to go out in the rain with him to look for a chair he wanted.

Here is chair number 2. From a 1975 Fiat. This one I made for a buddy after we walked around the junkyard and found him a chair he liked.

That one is nice looks pretty comfy for a bigger guy like myself!

94 olds vert 05-26-2011 03:27 PM

For such a small car it came out of, its a decent sized chair.

Buick96 05-26-2011 03:37 PM

lol you are awesome, I kind of want to try this now

94 olds vert 05-26-2011 03:41 PM

Lol thanks!

It's really fun to do and you make something really unique for not a lot of $$$

2k2cse 05-26-2011 04:33 PM

That one looks really comfy. How much do the seats usually cost at the jy?
