Default Sucking Unemployment funds...

So one of my friends' brother got fired from Meijer a while ago and hasnt had a job since. I went over to my friends house (also his parents house) and See a PS3 with rockband, A WII with about 30 new games, and an Xbox 360 still in the box.

I was amazed at how my friend got all these things and asked how he afforded them, he said they werent his, but his brothers... who also lives in the same house... and hasnt had a job for months.... who has all these new things....

His brother has been collecting unemployment checks this entire school year, and spending all the money on games and a new tv....

He collects $108 dollars a week, while I work my tail off and make less.... and has no intention of getting a job or paying for anything (even food, his parents pay all his expenses including schooling)

I have never wanted to punch someone in the ear so badly...

There in lies the problem. One who is a dependant (living under his parents roof) should not be eligible for any employment insurance compensation.

lol that is shitty.

but i cant talk much becuase im pulling 310 a week which is the max you can get. but im not going out and buying random things. its barely enough to get buy.

i am looking for a job though, but its hard to find something that is worth it. it has to be atleast 10.50 and hour to make it worth the drive. other wise i make more sitting on my ***.

sad but true. and im waiting also to see whats going to be going on with school in the fall in im going to be able to get into the classes that i need so that will determine what shift ill be able to work. most likly im going to have to go to a afternoon or midnights.

but i must say that is shitty that your friends brother is taking advantage of the funds like that.

Yeah, I completely understand that people need money to get by, and that unemployment is a life saver, but he got fired from meijers for being lazy on the job and late to work numerous times. If he was living on his own, or at least paying his parents rent i would completely understand it, but it kinda sucks knowing that he is screwing the system to buy a PS3

Now, I actually am going to disagree here. When I was living with my mom, after the divorce, She didn't have much money so it was up to me to buy all my own clothes, car, pay for insurance, gas etc... I had some descent summer jobs working construction and being an apprentice electrician, but both companys were small time and got very slow during the winter months. Winter would come, I would get laid off. I collected unemployment during the winter for about three years while under my moms roof as a dependent. The money didn't go for games and stuff though. It went for car repairs, gas, insurance, etc... I was trying to find full time work that wouldn't leave my unemployed every winter, but I just couldn't find it anywhere around, so I moved out to Maine. That only worked for about five months ( long story ) and I moved back here. When I moved back, I had no job, no money, no unemployment, so I basically get screwed. I couldn't even go out and LOOK for a job. I actually got very lucky and my mother-in-law got me into the place I work at now.

So, I disagree that dependants shouldn't be eligable for unemployment benefits. There just needs to be a certain level of responsibility involved. I know many people that were 30 + years old and on employment and they would by alcohol and drugs and not pay the car and house payment It isn't just dependants that can be irresponsible.

He will learn that unemployment does not last forever. When the payments stop he will have to to find a job, unless his parents let him freeload even more.

I have to disagree on that. I was laid off my job from West because of "Trimming" So I had to move back home with my mother. Shes not rich, Shes barely getting by aswell. I have to take $101 every week and spend it on everything except food.As for bills all I can offer to pay for her is the water and sewer bill, But first I have to get my car fixed and street legal though.

Not everyone who is still living at home on unemployment is a moocher. I just can't find a job, over 20 apps. Not **it. Although a local pizza joint is hiring in some spots. It just might be my ticket to being a pizza delivery Driver!

i also agree with xDRx
while i have never use unemployment, its not like welfare.
you pay into it. and if you dont have the required number of weeks you dont get it
who cares where you live. and yes it dont last for ever,

welfare moochers are what bother me. those who really need it,, fine.
but lazy arse ppl should not just get a handout.
we pay for welfare through our taxes... not for lazy bums.
