Default Stupid Question

But I've always wondered what these are for? Maybe wind deflection of some sort? Curiosity'* getting the best of me...and I've seen them on a number of GM cars.

I have seen them but never really wondered what they do until now, but my 92 has them as well.

anyone figure this out yet. I've actually asked people this same question.
It seems to serve no purpose except to make us ask questions
