Other possible items that can cause acceleration on it'* own...TPS sensor (reading high), MAP/MAF sensor, and IAC motor (sticking when open). Any one of which (or associated wiring) could trick the ecm into richening the mixture and increasing the spark advance even though the throttle blade hasn't moved. Though I would expect the problem to be happening a lot.
