Straighten your wheels
I park hundreds of feet from anyone whenever possible, which is whenever I'm not at work. And even at work I park next to a wall where no one can park in front or behind me. Since I don't have to squeeze in anywhere my wheels ARE usually straight, but if they aren't, I won't have an anxiety attack.
It'* a Bonneville, not a Ferrari, Lotus, etc.. No need to park it far away. I'm all for taking care of things, but i'm also a realist about it.
I pull in, and.. park. I'll only move the wheels the opposite way of the view if i'm infront of a window where people will see it (at work sometimes if I moved it before closing.) don't really like to strain the PS system, or wear the tires, and I couldn't care less which way the wheels are pointed when it'* sitting there. I always back out about 75% of the way straight though so there'* no chance of the nose bumping their car.
And I learned to drive on a 5 speed manual with a hand brake, so it'* almost ALWAYS on.
