You never stated the fuel pump had been replaced, just hinted at it. You made it sound like the pump was replaced at some point, but the filter had not been. My belief is that it is the fuel pump, again, as a result of not replacing the fuel filter.
Or perhaps a head gasket. I don't remember if by 2002 they had switched to the Ecotec, but the old school 2.2 would last forever -- as long as you did a head gasket every 100K. You're at 105K. Look for coolant at the front corners of the heads for your answer.
