To be honest, you can't really run a business solely on coffee (thus the frappucinos). By increasing the menu size, Starbucks increases it'* marketability. In the morning, we literally burn through gallons of coffee an hour, and make relatively few lattes. Also, I know how people are about coffee in the morning, and my store is a small cafe store so we get repeat customers. Usually, when I see a straight up coffee drinker come in, I'll pour it while I'm taking other orders and hand it to them if there'* a long line, that way they can sip it or add cream to it before they reach the front. Not to mention I usually make someone'* drink if I see them coming from the parking lot (working the morning is pretty funny because the same customers come in at the same time every day, you could probably write a schedule for what drinks to make each morning).
Frappucinos are what makes Starbucks hip to the kids, and it'* why we're so popular. Depending on the store, we make a decent latte. I enforce a strict policy of dairy handling and espresso handling. Espresso must be mixed with milk or water within 10 seconds of pouring or it goes sour. Milk must be steamed to the proper temperature, and may not be re-steamed or sit for more than 10 minutes. Coffee gets dumped every hour, and re-brewed. Coffee is ground fresh 2 times a day. These are all corporate policies, but others in the food industry might recognize you don't always follow all the details. Some Starbucks don't.
My $.02 about Starbucks customers is that if you're going through the drive through, you shouldn't go to Starbucks. You're paying a lot for a drink, and it'* not even the highest quality. We use normal dairy, normal beans, and the drink is pretty expensive. The coffee tastes pretty good because we roast it more than the average bean. The point of Starbucks is to be the place you go besides work and home. They want to create a neighborhood atmosphere, where each customer has a Starbucks they prefer to go to and can call it "their Starbucks." If you're not getting that out of Starbucks, then you've missed something.
About the Green tea latte...That thing is disgusting. I give you props for being able to down that, man. I do like a sip or two of the green tea frappucino, but the only Starbucks drinks I drink are a Green Tea Lemonade, Chai tea latte, brewed coffee, and an Americano. And I never eat the pastries.

Starbucks coffee=weak swill that doesn't even taste good. Hell, Sheetz (Gas station chain that runs through NY, PA, OH, IN, and MI) has better coffee than starbucks... But starbucks usually has cute college girls hanging around, too, so they both have their advantages.
