Default Speed monitoring w/Onstar

I was bored last night at 1 or 2 in the morning so I decide to talk to onstar for a little bit. We were just talking and so I asked if onstar could track your speed, the onstar operator said he is legally not enable to tell me the answer to the answer.

Just kinda found it humorus last night.

I've heard something along the lines that they can give the info to police at will or if the authorities (police) ask them without a warrant for info on driving they will give it to them. :?
I came across a Y2K SSEi with 134k on it for $6500 and activated Onstar and wondered if there might be something wrong with the car, and if something went wrong shortly after purchase the old owner could ask onstar for the info so as to cover his a**.
Or the seller had a contract that'* about to run out -say 2-3 weeks after the sale.

Yeah ya gotta watch it, when you have that onstar, they can watch you like a hawk.

They may say otherwise, but really, just watch it.

I would imagine they are probably looking more for the excessive speeders instead of the 5 to 10 over like everyone does.

I know the benefits and all, but -
Who would really WANT onstar? Most people don't like being watched like a hawk. :?

They said the only way they can track your car is when you file a stolen vehicle report with the police. When you hit the onstar button it takes a "snapshot" of your vehicle from GPS and if you turn around or on another road they aren't able to see it from their screen.

I'm not believing them one bit. I believe they have the technology to track your car in real time.

Good thing I didn't buy that Tahoe. I wouldn't have liked the OnStar, I see.
