I remember i was outside fooling around like 2 years ago, and had a jet sonic boom above my house, it was LOUD! I thought they weren't aloud to do it above residential areas, but i guess he decided he didn't care

I don't think you're allowed to do it in the continental US without permission. I've heard of people losing their wings (the ability to fly, not literally the wings of their jet) from breaking the sound barrier. I could be wrong though, just a speculation.

I heard a sonic boom on 9-12-01. (along with several other people in the area). I'm sure they get clearance for national emergencies and whatnot.

I've heard many, many of those.

My house isnt horribly far from Whiteman AFB if you were in a fighter. My house also isnt what youd call in a heavily populated area, so they love to come out here and fly around, often just above the treeline. Ive seen them so low you can see the pilot plainly.

They break the sound barrier from time to time, seems like its right on top of my house when they do it too. We live in a mobile home and the entire thing shakes when they happen.

They fly mostly A-10 Warthogs, although I have seen a B-2 once or twice, there for a while they had a crapload of them stationed at Whiteman.
