That thing was in amazing shape. I own a K5 too, and really love those trucks. But, if that were mine, and it looked like that... I'd just be looking for a new one. WAY too much would need to be done. Like everyone said, have him part it out.

I'm a member at www.ck5.com and they have a for sale section. I'm sure there would be plenty of parts that would sell easily. That or save them for the next one, if he buys another....

Agreed Totally! There'* nothing left of it. And if he did fix it, it would never be right again with a hit like that. Sell what you can, and junk the rest.

Newer cars are much safer then older ones regardless of how they look after an accident. The newer cars have crumble zones that are made to crunch up on impact so that the car absorbs the impact rather then your body. Have you ever watched an Indy car crash? They basically disentegrate into a million pieces, but the drivers always walk away. Also, Imports, in general, are no less safe then domestic vehicles.

no it'* not the technology, it is the the height I'm talking, he could have been decapitated, or no matter what, a new car vs a semi trailer at 50 MPH would have been disasterous.

Unless he hit it from the side (at which point the car isn't the probem, it'* the driver) then a car impacting a truck is "fine" in the sense that it'll hit the metal bars on the truck designed for cars to impact. Most newer cars have higher noses than before, My car has a higher nose than the MK4, new camry and accord have higher noses, the Malibu, etc..

Most newer cars have basically a "survival cell" for the passenger compartment, and everything else, trunk, engine bay, etc is a crumple zone. My GTI is safer than the ol' bonne I had. I'm amazed he didn't get one of his wheels into the footwell, but it'* hard to tell from the shots what transpired, or what cabin protrusion has happened.

Worth it? Hell no... Those can be had in MINT condition pretty damn cheap. If he had an engine and parts ready to swap onto it, maybe... Sentimental value'* aside, it'* not worth the work...

Yeah, your probably right, but he did hit it from the side, he didn't se the stopsiign and was in the fog, I don't think he should've been doing 50 in the fog though, but he is still a nice guy
