Around here the Red Cross will take it for free. When you think about it.. that'* a heck of a deal for someone in need.

here is how I do it...

Here is a shot across the room, I usually go pretty late in the day when there are not that many people there

Here is a shot from my section

Here is a shot of them taking my blood

Here is a shot of the machine that gets the plasma. Plasma is a yellow, almost urine looking liquid, that is part of the blood. This machine pumps the blood out of vein, and takes your blood in cycles, each time filling that container. 1 donation usually takes about 10-12 cycles. Once the machine takes the plasma out of the blood, it pumps it back into your vein, and starts the next cycle. At the end, they pump a saleen solution back into your vein to compensate for all the missing plasma. They pump this back in at room temp, 70*, so when it goes into your body which is 98.6*, it feels like ICE!

Andrew, all the BioLife places must look exactly the same around the country, because those photos look just like the place I used to give plasma in Ames!

It'* decent money, and BioLife is VERY good with cleanliness. Everything always comes out of a new package. Plus it'* a free screening for all kinds of blood diseases before they let you donate. I paid for about half my honeymoon with my plasma earnings

I agree. Just donate the whole blood, even.

The plasma centers you're going to are no doubt very safe, but if you can avoid recycling things back into your body, why take a chance?

(I have worked for a company that dealt with sterilization and sterilization tests for such equipment. It seemed that the techniques always needed some improvement. After that, I just sent my daughter the money, rather than have her collect the few bucks she was seeking for the plasma).

edited -- (ps -- I will send you a free Buttermore-type Actron OBD1.5 CP9111 cable for your CP91100 scanner out of my own pocket, if you don't already have one, if you decide to mow lawns or something, rather than do plasma-phoresing -- serious )

http://www.outlet.philips.com/ has a nice 47" LCD 1080P screen for $1500 shipped, its better than the plasmas.

oh wait....we're talking about blood. there are no plasma centers here, I need to drive 50 miles to the nearest one. Not worth the gas.
