I live in dauphin county, the next county away from lancaster county. I work less than 10 miles from where this happened. Very tragic. I saw a helicopter heading to Penn State Hershey Medical Center as I drove to work today, most likely with one of the victims on it. School shootings are horrible, but when they hit this close to home its unreal. The Amish here are very nice people. My heart goes out to tha families of those who were injured or lost thier lives today. Violence at schools seems to be on the rise for some reason. I work at a college, I worry alot about this.
32 yr old guy, nonAmish, married, three kids. Spotty reports put him as way beyond nuts, and there'* a good chance we're gonna find out he got booted from an institution.
I'm in Chester County, next door. Varied accounts coming out even as two hours ago. This afternnon, Chesco news picked up a sheriff who was telling some reporters to blow it out their butts. And how he would put a hurtin' on any of his officers or the State Police if anybody spilled a word. His intention was to get the girls safely handdelivered to their families. Good for him.
The Amish have no phones to call them, no radios, no TVs. they have to send officers to all of the homes. The families would have had no idea it was going on.
These are the most peaceful, non-violent people in America.
