For those of you that are selling your cars Please be careful of the new scam going on. Scam artist are trying to pull some over on eBay car sellers. promising to pay full price and mail check or money orders that later bounce. Most are written on foreign accounts. But they can do it here too. So just be careful.

Oh believe me, we're all very aware of this. This should probably be moved since this is not discussing an item for sale, but I realize why you put it here. Many of the members of this forum have been ripped off by eBay and other websites in one form or another, so most of us know to watch our backs

Yes, I had a couple of checks show up in the mail from overseas for cars I was selling last year and they just wreaked of fraud .....first tell tale sign is their spelling of certain words and use of phrases....they are sneaky buggers but can be detected. Best stick with members who have a track record I say.....Cheers

Just got one merely 5 minutes ago. Originated from a listing on craigslist.

Yeah I don't buy **** off ebay.
About 1/2 the transactions have been poor. Either the item was in pretty bad shape, the shipping took quite long, or whatever.

The only time I was at a total loss was once I bought a CD for $14 and never received it.

Ebay is so full of scammers. I don't know why people would spend more than say $50 [if even that if they are really struggling with money]
The most I have ever spent on an ebay transaction was about $30.

And yes, if the English has weird mistakes that anglophones just do not make, it is probably some overseas scammer.

Hold on I don't want to put down good eBay sellers. I buy from eBay all the time. But it seems the items worth thousands is what the scamer'* look for. If you must buy from there look at the rating of the seller, Helps you know who to do business with.

Oh yes there are plenty of honest sellers too.
The thing also to look for is if the seller has a lot of identical feedback, posted at the exact same moment. Those tend to be fake and mark bad sellers.

If you are ever in doubt about a check, have your bank verify it first and you can avoid the bounced check fee. But in all cases checks really take about 2 weeks to REALLY clear but only 2-3 days to show up in your account. So be warned.

Always wait till the check really clears!

Also another less often used scam done with checks is local pickup. They pick up item and give you a check. Its perfectly legal for them to stop a check, unlike boucing one.
