Default salmon fishin in Pulaski NY (56k warned)

Ahhh... 8am Monday, what a dreary morning and LOOK - they're all ready lined up for the days fun.
It was actually about 3x more crowded over the weekend.

I have never seen anything like that.
I haven't wet me line in a while. Got to get out before the weather starts getting cold.
Looks like fun.

I see at least a couple guys flyfishing, but the rest of those dudes aren't snagging, are they?

When I was a scout, we'd go up salmon fishing out of Fort Drum / Watertown...the scoutmasters thought snagging was cool, but I didn't think of that as particularly sporting...

I'm the opposite. its pretty boring esp when your fishing for something already half dead and you've no intention of keeping it anyways.

My grandson (thats him looking like Sqela in the camo hoodie) took a piece of one home to try and found out he doesn't like salmon either.

Nope, "snagging" (using a snag hook) is illegal and there are active game wardens around. But really, these fish are half dead and don't eat much at this point, The most common way to catch one is to use a regular hook and snag it. When you get it to shore, if its in the mouth its a keeper. Anyplace else: let it go. Your best odds are 'drifting'; cast upstreamish and let the hook drift into them. Since they sit there facing into the current you have good odds of getting a mouth hook.. You don't even use bait, just a peice of colored foam to keep the wardens happy.

At least 1 person a day looses all their gear to a warden for doing something illegal, not to mention the somehat expensive ticket they get in exchange.

Hmmm....I find this whole thing interesting. Would love to experience it sometime. I'll have to make it up there next year.
