I'm partial to them, only because they are still manufactured and I feel they are more flexible than the Q-jet. That said, I agree.... if you have a Q-jet in hand and it works reasonably well, there'* no compelling reason to buy a new Holley and start tuning it from scratch. Work with what you have.

Should anyone feel the need to switch, change intake manifolds to the squarebore flange at the same time... putting a Holley on the Q-Jet spreadbore pattern intake manifold is a recipie for heartache. (Holley'* 4165 Q-Jet replacement carb is worse than both the Q-Jet and 4150/4160 carbs combined...as are most of the adapter flanges...always use the right manifold for the right carb.... Spreadbores are for Q-Jets, Squarebores are for Holleys)

Some of the worst setups I've ever seen are Holley'* 'adapted' to stock manifolds.

Back on topic, if you get that Qjet rebuilt (assuming it'* the correct choice for your motor or can be adapted properly) it'll give you years of great service.

If you choose the wrong one, or don't go with a rebuild that includes all the updates, you will fight that thing forever.
