Its not just GM......I see chryslers at work all the time with way worse corrosion. Foreign cars with cheap wheels too.....

The chrome rims on our GS hold air just fine. But, the barrel of the rim is a mess. All of the chrome has completely flaked off every rim. Thankfully the outside of the rim still looks OK.

Even our Firehawk rims are starting to pit ever so slightly in the barrel. Those are made by SLP. Of course, that car has never seen snow, much less even a drop of rain.

If it bothers you a lot, you can send them off to be given an acid bath, then redipped. Kinda pricey, but it is a solution.

I would have to think that a lot of the problem is due to the fact that they can't do chrome plating the way they used to with all the environmental restrictions.

Our 2004 Bonneville SE with the optional chrome rims are starting to peel by the valve stems. Car only has 29800 miles on it, and has been garage kept. This started last year (2007) with only 25,000 miles on it. Dealer is NO help, it'* past the factory warranty, and our extended warranty doesn't cover wheels. Sounds like there'* nothing we can do. My husband is real upset, he got those rims purposely when we bought it new, and now is regretting the decision..

So far so good on this side of the fence. Bought my SSEi with chrome wheels & 8 years later, they still look as sharp as the 1st day & I drove off the dealership.
