READ THIS If you are coming to Motor City for the Super Bowl
.
I will be a little north of Detroit, in Clarkston, next week. I have been driving to Detroit for 12 years now and I 75 has always had construction. One year we were headed out of Detroit on I 75 up by Square Lake road and some nice landscaping company decided to unload a large load of landscaping boulders on to I 75. Traffic was stopped for 2 hours. The frustrations of being 15 minutes away from the in-laws home and stuck in traffic after an 11 hour drive was unbearable.
However bad the traffic is in Detroit it is not as bad as DC.

Metro Detroit is VERY well known for the construction snarls! I grew up in the area and it made me nuts. I'm beyond glad that I no longer deal with the metro Detroit traffic!!
IMO, Detroit is such a non-desirable place to live that urban sprawl has gotten out of control. The highway system can't accomodate it so the construction lives on. Plus, the more sprawl, the more complicated a metro transit system would become. Me, I live in Grand Blanc and used to commute 65 miles one way to various parts of metro Detroit simply because I can't stand Oakland or Wayne counties.

And guys detroit isnt that bad.. It'* dissapointing to hear some of these remarks about the murder rate and such. Its really getting nicer in downtown I just wish there was a mayor to back it up, I live in the suburbs so I really have no say.
