Several thoughts here....
First, congrats on the weight loss decision and I hope you reach your goal.
Venison IS leaner than beef and properly cooked, tastes the same. My brother and brother-in-law are hunters and excellent cooks. They would also NEVER shoot a deer in a manner that would make it suffer. I have heard (don't have proof though) that livestock in commercial slaughterhouses do not usually meet a quick merciful death.
Raw deal that your Grandma attempted trickery.
I wouldnt be able to go vegan, love meat WAY too much for that to each his own.
Good luck to you

I don't understand why you won't eat the venison because it was hunted and killed with a gun. At least the deer had a sporting chance, as compared to all the other meats out there that you ate without remorse. The beef, chicken, pork etc. that you ate was made for one simple reason: To be killed and eaten. if anything, eating venison should be less traumatic and easier on the conscience than the other manufactured meats.
/Just sayin......
(and to clear up some things, I'm not a PETA loving nut-job. I eat meat the same way as everyone else. With my hands, grease dripping down my arms. )
