Especially if they're a "captured" customer, and you have limited supplies. They are trying to price demand down somewhat, but americans like living in suburbia away from their jobs, shops, etc.
UK gas prices is that high due to their fuel duty (tax). All road spending, and whatnot comes from their fuel tax.
