Default Pontiac GTP

Anyone on here own or have experience with them? They look tempting, I said earlier I was toying with the idea of ditchin the bonne. Don't jump down my throats, nothings definite, but what are you guys'* opinions on the GTP? How does it stack up vs. an SSEi? Think it'll be an improvement over my SLE? I like the flexibility and modability of it. Seems like they have good potential.

I like the GTPs over the bonnies actually...

they are usually beaten on more though.

They have their fair share of problems though, many common to the bonnie drivetrain wise but other issues like windshield motors going on etc...at least that is what I hear

werd. Interior = hugely lacking, IMO. The features are there, but everything'* kinda... Sunfire and bulbous... that said, it wouldn't prevent me too much from owning one. A GT model for the right price will be sitting in my driveway...

i dont own a GP but i do own a W-body, and the interior and ride quality is quite subpar when compared to my Bonneville, even my SE had those nice big comfy seats that you could just get lost in, now i have smaller less comfortable seats, and the Bonneville was of course a crusing machine, even on the bumpiest of roads, and always felt tight.

my car has a stiffer ride, you seem to notice more bumps and theres just alot of things that make it feel cheaply made sometimes.

I don't know why people knock the interiors so much.

Going from my 95 SSE to the 97 GTP, it isn't that much different. They are both very comfortable and great for long trips. But the suspension is stiffer. I like a sporty ride though, it'* up to you and what you want.

You have a wider aftermarket for the GTP. Not just engine stuff, but more cosmetic and suspension stuff.

It'* lighter, quicker, handles a lot better, and women love them (tis very true).

I love my GTP. I have owned it for about 1 and a half years so far and have had no major problems. I bought it at 85K and it now has around 105K. It needed new brakes, a wheel bearing, tie rod ends, and other than that, just normal maintenance.

Note: I've driven 3 different Bonnies from various generations.

As much as i love my bonneville, i plan on having another GTP here in the next few months as well as my bonneville. I really miss my GTP, to me, and me and Sol might just be the only 2, it was very roomy, the seats were comfy and i love the heated part. Also, the heads up is more technologically advanced(not by much though) and i love the slopiness and the curves of the car. The interior isnt the same as the bonneville, but it isnt bad. My bonnie is just a tad more comfy, but not by much, although when i got mine, it was very well maintained and not ragged out by any means, it was very well taken care of. They are really nice cars, and if dressed up properly(mods and such) can be set apart from the rest of the GP'* out there. I now want an 02-03 GTP but this time i think i want white or maybe Dark Cherry Metallic if offered in those years

Dark Cherry Metallic was offered in '02 and '02 only, as it was the color used on the 40th Anniversary cars. But, since it is a 40th anniversary color, the price of the car will be more due to the 40th anniversary package, although IMO the 40th is a lot nicer than a regular GTP. But maybe its just because I'm biased.

Overall, a GTP is a nice car. They are just as reliable as a Bonnie, and you can get them with most of the same luxury options. (you can only get a drivers heated seat and little things like that but for the most part the options list is very similar) They don't have quite as smooth of a ride but that is because they are supposed to be sportier. They drive nicely and handle well, and they are lighter than a Bonneville of course resulting in them being quicker. Personally, I'd rather have an SSEi just because I like all the little toys they have, but a GTP is a very nice car, and isn't really much of a downgrade from your car if any at all. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

easyperformance sells a kit to retrofit the passenger seat with heat as well. Very similar cars. Bonne is more of a relaxed softer ride and GP is more the sports edition.

I would want the GP with the 5.3L V8, I can't remember the badging, I'm not sure if it was a GXP or they changed it.

The 5.3L V8 comes with those bitchin' rims, I love those rims....
