One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Except how the vast majority of Muslims in Canada do not feel these suspects who have been apprehended are freedom fighters.
I watched the hour long televised conference from the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, seems the underlying tone from Chief Blair was that we cannot condemn Muslims, simply to allow due process to run its course with these suspects. |
I spent a semester studying terrorism, and what has occured is not out of the ordinary.
Considering how easy it is to cross borders from the US and Canada, it is only logical for a terrorist organization to spread out their base of operation. Also considering that the US and Canada share very similar culture, it is easy to see why terrorist groups that are against the US would also be against Canada. Modern terrorist groups work in autonomous cells, so it is nearly impossible to find the source of this, which is a downer. However, these cells cannot work without one thing ... money. Terrorist acts are played outside of the rules and are difficult to predict, where as criminal acts are easy to spot and infiltrate. Most terrorist groups today resort to criminal activity to provide funds. This is probably how they were caught. It is easy to find a criminal, and from there it is only a matter of time to find a terrorist. I hope that more information is unfolded which will lead to further arrests with other groups. And just a side note, don't think that we haven't been attacked since 9/11. There have been over 300 terrorist attacks in the US since then, just not on the scale of what happened that day. It's all around us... Also, terrorists are not freedom fighters. They aren't fighting for any freedom. They are fighting for some kind of political or religious gain, not freedom. It really bugs me when the president goes on TV and says terrorists hate us because of our freedoms. They don't hate us because of that, they hate us because of our policies and our ideologies. |

No, that's not at all true.
Most Muslims are very peaceful. The media makes them all look like savages. The extremist Muslims, which are called Jihadists are the ones that think all non-Muslims should die. Not all of them think like that. It's only a very very small percentage. But if you were just referring to the extremists, then yes, that is one of the reasons why they hate us. |
