Police stop Canadian Terror Plot

Keep seeing this on the news. Glad they caught these people. Apparently the group was locked and loaded and prepared to carry out terror plots. Good thing they did not get the chance to do so!

Ya, its all over the news and papers here. I'm not one to force guilt based on an arrest right away, as innocent til proven guilty is important, but man, the evidence is sure stacked up against these guys.

3 tons of ammonium nitrate!?!?!? no one needs 3 tons for fertalizing a lawn or 2. Little bit of diesel oil and we'd be in big trouble.

Canadians have pretty much sat back on our laurels watching the US do this "war on terror" thing thinking we're pretty much safe, but seeing what these guys had done, and we're preparing to do, will force us to be more....aware?

I find it amazing you know, and I agree with Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair, that people like this can live in a country like Canada with all the multiculturalism and democratric rights to freedom of ANYTHING, and they're motive is to bring harm to fellow citizens. Some of the accused are 2nd and 3rd generation in Canada :?

Several of them were from Mississauga, from seemingly elegant lifestyles, shit some of the houses  and its our way of living that gives these people the ability to live so comfortably, these werent angry poor immigrant peasants.

Not really, this is some serious shit that went down yesterday, unfortunately a dead John Candy can't fix this one.

Good work by the RCMP. Terrorist groups are the hardest groups in the world to infiltrate. Thankfully there are some smart people out there stopping them.

Well done to the RCMP, it is hard to believe that this was happening in Canada. For a long time now, a lot of Canadians (I am one of them) had the belief that is was not possible in my country, that my country is too peaceful for that. Well this certainly opened my eyes to the fact that not one country on this earth can just sit by and watch!

SSsuperchargedEi 06-04-2006 03:38 PM

OMG most of the suspects were < 25!!! its a messed up world out there

Everyone should know by now you can't remain neutral in this war. Appeasment doesn't make them leave you alone. They are terrorist. They need to be hunted down and killed.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Jim W 06-04-2006 05:43 PM

Except how the vast majority of Muslims in Canada do not feel these suspects who have been apprehended are freedom fighters.

I watched the hour long televised conference from the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, seems the underlying tone from Chief Blair was that we cannot condemn Muslims, simply to allow due process to run its course with these suspects.

Sol 06-04-2006 06:21 PM

I spent a semester studying terrorism, and what has occured is not out of the ordinary.

Considering how easy it is to cross borders from the US and Canada, it is only logical for a terrorist organization to spread out their base of operation. Also considering that the US and Canada share very similar culture, it is easy to see why terrorist groups that are against the US would also be against Canada.

Modern terrorist groups work in autonomous cells, so it is nearly impossible to find the source of this, which is a downer. However, these cells cannot work without one thing ... money. Terrorist acts are played outside of the rules and are difficult to predict, where as criminal acts are easy to spot and infiltrate. Most terrorist groups today resort to criminal activity to provide funds. This is probably how they were caught. It is easy to find a criminal, and from there it is only a matter of time to find a terrorist.

I hope that more information is unfolded which will lead to further arrests with other groups.

And just a side note, don't think that we haven't been attacked since 9/11. There have been over 300 terrorist attacks in the US since then, just not on the scale of what happened that day. It's all around us...

Also, terrorists are not freedom fighters. They aren't fighting for any freedom. They are fighting for some kind of political or religious gain, not freedom. It really bugs me when the president goes on TV and says terrorists hate us because of our freedoms. They don't hate us because of that, they hate us because of our policies and our ideologies.

They hate us because we are not Muslim. Simple as that.

Sol 06-04-2006 07:40 PM

No, that's not at all true.

Most Muslims are very peaceful. The media makes them all look like savages. The extremist Muslims, which are called Jihadists are the ones that think all non-Muslims should die. Not all of them think like that. It's only a very very small percentage.

But if you were just referring to the extremists, then yes, that is one of the reasons why they hate us.

Well, I'll agree that they aren't fighting for "our" freedoms, or that they "hate them" (I dislike that rhetoric). However, they ARE fighting for a cause they believe in, not that I am saying that justifies their methods.
