Default point and shoot camera help

I need to find a good middle ground point and shoot camera since at the moment all I have is the cell phone and it keeps flaking out. I want a DSLR but I want something that I can toss in my bag or stick in my pocket and have ready if the moment presents itself. My birthday is not too far off and well my girl is not the greatest when it comes to electronics shopping so some hints or ideas would help her out alot. I am a huge canon fan but I did a little digging and the canon I liked was a battery killer. Any ideas will be great and I want something that is 12 mp or more if possible and looking to stay under the 200 dollar limit. If there is any camera buffs that would be great.

I'm no pro when it comes to cameras, but from the research I've done for myself, and what I already know.. you can't get a DSLR that can fit in your pocket, or one thats good for under $200. Cannon makes fairly good cameras as far as I know. I'm not too sure about any other brand.

I know that a DLSR wont fit in the pocket a point and shoot is the ones with the retractable lenses and such that are the ones that are for parties and such not the quality shots that a dslr is used for... I guess you could say the point and shoots are the daily drivers of the camera world lol.

lol yeah. I would definitely go with a canon. I was looking at getting a new camera last year, and had it narrowed down to one, but things came up and I never got it. Now, I would narrow it down to these two http://digitalpbk.com/canon-sx-serie...on-sx130is-new They're not really the smallest camera available, but they have incredible optical zoom capabilities and high mp.

Neither are under $200, but they are some of the best P&* you could buy.

Also, the megapixel count doesn't matter honestly. Its the image chip that really matters, and then the lens. My D-SLR is only 10mp, but I can assure you that it takes 10x better pictures than a P&* that has 11ty billion mp.
