if your gonna get a new board go ahead and update processor also find a decent processor and mother board combo that will fit your case and budget

You may want to upgrade your power supply too. Maybe just spring for a newer ATX case with a 400W+ power supply and rebuild from the ground up.

well if you wanna get a new set up that wont break the bank and just swap the harddrive and cd rom and that fun stuff take a look at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...010&CatId=1220
and with your size sound like you could get away with a matx board

The K6-2 is where you had problems with amd, that system is better as a boat anchor than a computer. The newer AMD'* are pretty good, better than the Intel Celeron, but doesnt outclass the new P4. It doesnt sound like you run any games, so just check your local computer stores for deals, even walmart has some descent stuff, you should be able to find a nice non-gaming machine for around $600-800 that will last you a few years, or you could just upgrade certain parts if you feel comfortable doing so, www.pricewatch.com is a good site. But you will probably have to change the power supply, main board, processor and fan, ram and might even a case. Most of the time now its cheaper to buy a new system, minus the crap you already have.
