tonight on Pimp My Ride, they had this chick'* mustang. they had a switch setup, where, while she'* driving/revving, she could push the button, and it put gas into the exhaust line, making flamethrowers. I've seen this done, but its been with a propane tank, or something else in the exhaust line. Anyone have more info on this? does it tee into the fuel line, and then drop it in the exhaust line just after the muffler?

My uncle knows of a trick that you can do with a spark plug in the exhaust to do the same thing.

The way I've seen it done, you tap the pressure side of the fuel line with a solenoid valve, the relay trigger switch also triggers a coil to pop on a spark plug at the end of the exhaust. You put the fuel into the exhaust on the top, before the last straight section of pipe, and the spark toward the inside of the car, about 6 inches from the end.
However, It'* not street legal, And it'* very dangerous.

I don't think that a spark plug alone would do anything, as there isn't enough fuel to get a flame. (At least on modern car) Stock cars, and other racing engines have small flames coming from the exhaust because they have such radical cams.

The old school way of doing this was close to this. You put a spark plug into the exaust, and installed a second ignition coil for that plug. You had a switch that would break the normal ignition coil, causing the fuel to just pass through your running (but now coasting down) engine. At the same time you cut the primary, the new ignition coil was powered up, igniting the unburned fuel coming down the pipe. Dangerous, not so good for the engine, and much easier to do on the older models.

If you are going to do this using the fuel from the engine you will have to cut the cat. It might work for a little while but the cat is going to clog up quick. The best way would be to do a separate fuel source after the cat. Plus having the cat will help a little with the flame trying to travel back to the engine because of back pressure.

well, happy coincidence, i cut my cat our a few weeks ago... So, are there enough ignitable gasses in the exhaust as it is to make a flame if i were to put some kind of spark on the end of the pipe?
