Default Picked up a '68 Cutlass

Picked up a '68 Cutlass "*" Holiday Coupe on 9/13. Owners just sent me some pics as we were loading it up. Door hit the trailer fender so I had to Bo Duke it out the window. Original owner was an old lady from California. California Highway Patrol tag is still in the lower-right hand corner of the windshield.

The wheels are the original Sapphire Blue paint from 1968 but she had the body repainted the greenish color for some reason across the border in Mexico. You can see the sun-fade line half-way down the car. A nice illustration or what happens to your paint if you don't take care of it.

The car is rock solid with minor rust on the lower fenders and is lined up hopefully for paint after the first of the year. I've visited a Tech. School nearby who does nice work. I only pay for materials. $300-$500. They painted the instructor'* '66 Chevelle SS and a 60'* Corvette last year and have another Corvette lined up for this year as well as a 60'* Impala. That'* all I needed to hear regarding what kind of paint jobs they crank out. They'll even do the dash, wheels and door jams.

Very, very nice!! Someone else just got a Cutlass from about that time frame within the last couple of months. I wish I still had my Cutlass *, but sadly, she blowed up many, many years ago....

That other person may have been me. I had some seat belt questions regarding 1968 production cars a month or so ago. Specifically, whether cars from that year had shoulder belts yet. Early model 68'* didn't have them. Luckily, mine does. They stow up along the headliner above the window. Very retro.

That thing looks awesome. Are you going back to the original color?

Yep, it'* going back to Sapphire Blue. With the interior color being blue, I'm limited on exterior colors even if I wanted to change it to something else. In the meantime, It'* fun to drive around making noise with a "beater" paint job. Carb is being rebuilt this week and I'm yanking the valve covers and intake manifold off for a fresh coat of Old'* Gold.

This is the original color I believe. This is a '69 Cutlass but you get the idea. 68'* didn't have headrests.

looks nice. Very jealous. I got my 71 Buick 350 in the garage waiting for me to become not poor and buy a car for it to live in.
