I believe 90% of otitis media cases are viral and antibiotics will do absolutely nothing. And even if it was bacterial antibiotics only gets rid of it 2-3 days quicker than if it were to go untreated. I'd say just take some tylenol, that will help with some pain and inflammation.

Wellllll, i finally got antibiotics on friday...i'm getting better. Its gotta be bacterial. That was REALLY bad there for a while. I wasn't able to sleep for 2 nights....had a fever of 102.5, the whole right side of my face was tender and swollen, the swelling in my ear canal pushed my jaw forward so my teeth were completely unaligned and also made it painful to move my jaw...so talking and eating became a chore, then in its later period, it gave me a HORRIBLE sore throat...ugh..basically it felt like someone driving a huge rough masonry nail into my ear and then topping it off with some acid. Still can't hear out of it....we'll see. But its gettin better.

Oh well. Thats life. Just thought i'd share with mah bc family.

i know ur obvioulsy joking, but thats not too far from being true.

in 2000, i had a bilateral ear infection (both ears) and the only releif was when my ear drums popped. i was on the way to the dr when the first one popped. i told them that it felt much better. and they told me why. because when the drum popped, there no more pressure to cause the pain. so i started to plug my nose and do what i could to pop the other one. i was deaf for about a week, and heard poorly for about 2 week after that. the drums healed though, not 100% but hey could be worse.

Trust me, I know. Remember, I have kind of a warped sense of humor...I like things that are a little on the hideous side of funny...

That being said, we had a turtle once that had a nasty ear infection, and none of the vets back then would take reptiles, so me and Mom ended up performing surgery ourselves...he came through OK, but it had to have hurt like hell, cause we had no way to put him under or anesthetize him...

What was the worst was that Mom used a Q-tip to clean the wound. This wasn't a big turtle, and that Q-tip had to be a good 1/2in inside it'* head. Given that it'* head was maybe a bit over an inch wide....think how it would feel to jam a Q-tip more than 1/3rd of the way through your head.
