FYI, the US military owns and operates several former soviet aircraft designs/models, including the Hind. I can't see an Eastern Bloc country spending the money to paint like that. It'* either a privately owned helo, or an american military. That'* my guess anyway.

The US military AND the UN are both using Hinds in Afghanistan right now. Military probably mostly for special ops, rare usage I'm sure. UN uses them for humanitarian stuff, and most recently crashed one on the way to pick up ballots in the recent election.

Seriously? They are using foriegn equipment in Afganistan?
You have anything that proves this? Sorry not trying to be an arse, just skeptical.

Ok. Try http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/ne...04-381407.html
My goof, this one is an MI-8.
Bud, the US Military has owned and operated foreign aircraft for years. They use them when it suits them most. Especially for covert operations. I spent time in the US Military, and on several occasions saw Soviet aircraft in US Military Service.
And here'* a small tidbit on US Service with our military:
http://aeroweb.lucia.it/~agretch/RAFAQ/SovietinUS.html
There'* much more information, but you won't see anything on US Special Ops use of them.

Right, the Spec Ops use doesn't surprise me, they have pretty loose reigns. Anyways, I wasn't doubting you man, just like to get the whole story for myself.

The email i received those pics in said "The story is: this very special Mi-24 helicopter is presently flying in Afganaistan, where it is no doubt causing quite a stir". I don't know anything about helicopters so i don't know if it is a Mi-24. You ppl know your stuff.
