Ok, what was your first car?

I am surprised this hasn't been asked (or maybe it has been and I didn't search right) BUT I see alot of y'all just getting licenses or buying your first car, so I had to ask.

My first training car was a '79 AMC Concorde Wagon "Government Special" (no rear seat, extended rear deck, all white w/blue interior, and poverty caps). Met its demise by going down a ditch, back up the ditch, *slightly airborne*, and slammed into a neighborhood sign made of oak

My first "on my own" car was a 95 Dodge Neon Sport. Left it in Guam.

1974 Toyota Corona station wagon. Lt. blue w/black interior, paid $1000 for it in '85. Sold it for 400 in '89.

BOY,did that 'wagon hold some memories ;)

BLACK94SSEi 06-05-2006 08:44 PM

I just turned 16 and bought a 84 Mercury Capri which was Mercurys version of the Mustang. It had the Ford 5.0.

I had nothing but problems with it since I bought it and come to find out, it was wrecked and redone, very poorly at that. I found wires cut uner the hood. so I spliced them back together to find out that my wipers would stay on even though the switch was off!! some of the wiring under the hood in the loom were melted together  tons of other issues. I ended up beating it for about a month then traded it in for a bigger shitbox!! LOL

this wasnt my actual car, but exactly like it.

That is GODLY status for those transmissions. I had a 85 Charger that had trans problems and a 95 LeBaron with that tell-tale downshift clickity-click.

DarkShadow 06-05-2006 08:44 PM

my first car was a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage DE with 168k of pure abuse from my mom on it. she bought it from a dealer in chicago in 99 with 30k on it and well when i got it it was a smoking heap lol. it burned alotta oil, 1qt in a couple hundred miles. its airbag light was on since day one. the check engine light had been on since 2000 and i traded it in 2004 for $600 on the jeep i just got rid of.

god i miss that car ALOT. i see it running around every once in a while still. one of the mechanics that works at the dealership i sold it to bought it. I would DEFINATELY buy another one in a heartbeat.

its was identical to this one just different hubcaps.

My first car was a '94 Buick Century. It had the 3100 and I had to replace the LIM gaskets at 76k. My mom now owns it with 84k on it. Great little car and had alot of pep.

Here's all of mine!
1965 Plymouth Fury 318ci V8 - not very fast - Cars were very basic back then.
No a/c
am radio
No power windows
I'm not even sure if it had disc brakes in the front.

Traded the Fury to my brother for a 1967 Dodge Dart GT 267?ci V8, 4 on the floor made this one a fun car to drive - wish I would have kept it.

1973 Pontiac Grand Am 400 ci V8.
This thing was huge & heavy. Less than 10 mpg in the winter. Gas started getting expensive. I still remember the first time it took $20 to fill it, I was in shock.

1978 Pontiac Grand Am - 301 ci V8.
One of my favorites. Great looking car.

1989 Pontiac Bonneville - Don't really need to say anything to you guys. This car still has the original starter, O2 sensor & wires. Only left me stranded once in 17 years, ignition coils went.

1999 Chevy Tahoe - Really nice, for a truck. Better mpg's than that 73 Grand Am.

2006 Chevy Monte Carlo SS - This one is fast!

1978 GMC 2500 Full Bed, 7.4L 454, Turbo400, Cam, Headers, dual 3" exhaust, Holley 4 barrel oversized Carb (forget the terminology) It problably had other mods as well but was damn fast until it threw a rod about 8 months after buying it. only paid $2000 for the truck but it was a ripoff since I sold it for $500.

After that I went to the 3800 cars and have made money on most of them.

1988 Chevy Celebrity Wagon with the 2.8 V6, sold it at 248K adn still runnin that i know of...

Well, my first 4 wheel mode of transportation was a 1976 Chevy van, Or as my mom called it, that damn hotel on wheels. My first actuall car was a 1984 Fiero which I bought new, and was VERY suprised when I had to get insurance for it.

1970 Pontiac Tempest
It's name was Goldie.
Pre mandatory seatbelts and DUI laws......and the (140) mph speedo matched the speed limit signs.

1976 Grand Marquee 460BB 4brl. Dual exhaust. Fastest land yauht(sp?) Ford ever made

I wish, I was paying nearly $200 a month, and that was with a clean driving record.

PRD2BDF 06-05-2006 11:00 PM

I had a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with T-tops and a 307 V8. It was a two door coupe that was black with maroon interior. It was a cool car, the A/C sucked, all the time, I would remove the T-tops and go driving. I got tired of the legarthic acceleration and sold it and brought the Bonneville, whoa what a big change, the Bonne was 100x faster and more responsive and it could actually spin the tires.

Princess Jeanie 06-05-2006 11:14 PM

First car I drove with any regularity: '99 Chevy Blazer
First car that was "mine": '94 Pontiac Bonneville SLE
First car that was "mine" totally: '00 Pontiac Grand Am SE

More of a go-kart but my first was an 86 Toyota mr2. It patiently waits in my moms barn until I can bring it a working 4AGzE or if money affords a 3rd gen 3SGTE(260 hp and yes it's a 4-banger!

1987 Mazda 626, all original in horrible shape cosmetically, runs fantastic. Only left me stranded a few times: battery, snapped balljoint. Fun FUN little car to drive, will still burn both tires in a straight line (granted with a 5k rpm clutch drop)! Still gets 33-35 mpg's on the highway. 218k miles, got it with just a smidge under 200k. Basic as you can get, no power, no A/C, nothing. Just my cd player.

1988 Buick LeSabre Custom Sedan with 156,000 on it when I sold it. Most reliable vehicle my family has EVER owned! It only needed a total of $1,000 in repairs over a seven year span. It had the LN3 in it too.

1991 Chev Lumina Euro 3.1

Dad's company car from 3M, then I got it when I got my license. Had to put a motor in it, a transmission in it, I totalled it into a tree at 40 MPH and rebuilt it, and still drove it until I got my first Bonneville in 2003. What a champ that car was.

Moved on to a 95 Talon TSi AWD.
Then a 94 Bonne SLE
Then another 94 Bonne SLE. <-- this one kicks ass.

during my permit years i drove my dad's 87 Ford Ranger, 2.3, 5-speed....can barely get out of its own way, tranny has over 200,000 miles, on its 2nd engine with lord knows how many, and oddly enough its in the shop as i type this :D

first car was a 1996 Bonneville SE, loved that car, hated myself when I backed into a pole one night, hated myself even more when I lost control of it and hit a pole, totalling it..ironic, the poles and whatnot.

here she was:.....with the Ranger in the background even!

i still miss that car, it was just such a great car to just go out crusing around in, built like a tank.
