Now why would I want to do that...

I see the icon in the lower right that tells me there are new Windows updates available. I see the newest is a 1.2mb download that tells me whether or not my copy of Windows is genuine.

I know my Windows is legit, it came with the fricking laptop. I don't need a 1.2mb program to tell me so. Screw you, Microsoft. I'm not downloading it. I wonder what else retarded they've snuck onto my computer to waste hard drive space.

you all really got it sort of. they hide it in some of the other updates.

FOR ALL that have a Legal copy, there is nothing you have to worry about.

and yes, they will start to block you from downloading updates if you dont do it.

the only people that have to worry about doing it is if you dont have a "legal" copy

After you download it, each time you go online, it contacts Microsoft'* servers. So, it'* not just a one time check, or just when you want to do an update. I didn't catch it in time on one of my computers, with the updates. I finally just had my firewall block it.
