the 3800 is "old technology", just like my 4.3L
I always thought they should make a supercharged V6 Pontiac G8 and call it the G8 SSEi, but of course they won't. It could be a nice alternative to the G8 GT, for less money and better gas mileage possibly.

I think GM should have kept the 3800 badge as a marketing tool as the 3800 had a very long standing...
But GM should have redesigned the engine to be an all aluminum block and head design possibly like the 5.3 LS4...
Or GM should have redesigned the 3800 into a 3.8 Twin Cam...
But Like Jim said this may be where the new 3.6 Fills the shoes.... Its a strong little motor...
I love my 3800'* and always will... But even the 3500 would have given me a run for my money when comparing to my L36

After the epic failure that was the 60* 3.4L DOHC of the 1990'*, I'd hate for it to happen again.
Just looked at an 2004 3800 that STILL has the manifold gasket leak problem. Better just to move on to a new design altogether.
Our 96 had the problem, brother-in-law'* 99 had the problem. You are telling me that GM can't figure out the problem after eight years????

Oh, im sure they know about the problem and know how to fix it. The whole problem to begin with is GM is being mismanaged for the longest time and under the whim of the bean-counters. GM has talent, its the people managing the company thats screwing everything up. And the unions.
