I don't even have my license yet (Can't wait until Friday!!!), but I will definately agree that something has to be changed. I don't know what exactly but I have been in the car with way too many un-experienced young drivers that make a lot of mistakes, and just get lucky so they don't get tickets or in accidents. Eventually they will probably get in an accident. I personally think it is what they teach you in drivers ed, and what is in the drivers test. Hell, my sister couldn't parallel park, drove 10mph over the speed limit the whole time, and ran a red light during her drivers test, and PASSED! There is obviously something wrong here. At least they realize it and are trying to do something about it.

you're right dbtk2, we should be happy they have realized something is wrong... maybe just tighter restrictions on the testing... maybe some questions that don't all have the same words in the answer, just worded differently each time...

The thing that bothers me is, How can you run a red light and then get away with it??

hmm... i just thought of something.... i read an article in some magazine talking about how the average attention span of a teen has dropped in the past 30 or so years, concurrent to the mass influx of video game consoles.... so i ponder, i don't play many video games as their simplicity annoys me... but i'm not the majority here, maybe that'* it? do you guys play alot of video games and the like?

im a moderate gamer, i play Unreal Tournament at school every spare moment i have, i also play it at home, and once i get my computer upgraded ill be spending plenty of time in the world of Morrowind. and i still have an attention span. i just think i was raised properly and taught how to drive very well.

Unfortunately, these rules have to be based on the lowest common denominator. The ones that are out there killing themselves and others.

Just like so many other laws and rules (one that'd definitely start an argument in here as it has so many times) the few have to suffer for the many.

Besides, these 2 particular laws would normally only be enforcable if/when the person in question already screwed up. It'* not like most police have enought time to notice who'* driving every car out there, and how many people are with them.

i think that part of it boils down to if you take driving seriously. When I sit down behind the wheel, I am there to get the car and everyting in it from point A to point B without hitting anything, not to entertain for people in the backseat.

exactly, people dont seem to grasp that ever time you get beyond the wheel, you hold your life and the lives of those with you in the very palm of your hand. sounds kinda paranoid i guess, cause that makes driving to the end of the driveway to get the mail seem like running the gauntlet...car style. but people need to take driving more seriously than they do.
