How hard would it be to put a S2 */C in there? Kidding of course, but I like the thought

Cheetah,
Yep... Thats the old 4.3 Vortec in the early years... in 92 they made that 4.3 in HO format... It was funny seeing Chevy Astro van with the Letters HO.... But it was plenty strong enough to move what you wanted..
Look at the firebird block, the same block is used for FWD... Now the question is how is it set up as far as the mounting points..
It would be interesting to see an SC'd 3800 in a Blazer...
But that 4.3 isn't weak by any means...

Just did intake gaskets on my folks'* 99 Blazer a couple weekends ago. Space can be tight in there. But yes it looks like a 350 inside. Thiers looked like it had a balance shaft like our 3800'* do.
Made me grateful for the space of the h-body engine bay

Yes the newer 4.3'* did have balance shafts... They suffered similar issues to the Buick V6 for the very same reasons

I am taking off Thursday and Friday to pull this puppy apart I want that motor out, fixed and back to running properly so I can go and do some figure 8'*
I will be buying some Prestone orange coolant, gear oil, fuel filter, air filter, good conventional oil and filter this weekend to be ready to go as soon as the motor is put in. I already have a new trans filter and Vavoline Max Live trans fluid for it.
I will also be putting in a block heater. If I have the engine out, I might as well. Get'* kinda cold up here

That usually gives you enough clearance to come in between the transmission case and tunnel to get at the bolts. Bunch of ratchet extensions helps too.
I'm not a big fan of the 4.3L Vortech. My '97 Astro had one (TBI) and it wasn't that great. I have a sneeking suspision that it blew a head gasket. It'* gone now, somebody elses problem.
I would also suggest a V8 swap, but if you are determined to rebuild, get a list of all the gaskets for the 4.3L and it'* cost in long-block form. You may find it is cheaper to just get a remanufactured 4.3.
