I'm going to assume that'* a V-6

How hard would it be to put a S2 */C in there? Kidding of course, but I like the thought

Just did intake gaskets on my folks'* 99 Blazer a couple weekends ago. Space can be tight in there. But yes it looks like a 350 inside. Thiers looked like it had a balance shaft like our 3800'* do.

Made me grateful for the space of the h-body engine bay

I am taking off Thursday and Friday to pull this puppy apart I want that motor out, fixed and back to running properly so I can go and do some figure 8'*

I will be buying some Prestone orange coolant, gear oil, fuel filter, air filter, good conventional oil and filter this weekend to be ready to go as soon as the motor is put in. I already have a new trans filter and Vavoline Max Live trans fluid for it.

I will also be putting in a block heater. If I have the engine out, I might as well. Get'* kinda cold up here

If you haven't figured out the transmission bolt, I presume it'* one of the two on the top of the bellhousing, try disconnecting the drive shaft and removing the crossmember that support the transmission tailshaft.

That usually gives you enough clearance to come in between the transmission case and tunnel to get at the bolts. Bunch of ratchet extensions helps too.

I'm not a big fan of the 4.3L Vortech. My '97 Astro had one (TBI) and it wasn't that great. I have a sneeking suspision that it blew a head gasket. It'* gone now, somebody elses problem.

I would also suggest a V8 swap, but if you are determined to rebuild, get a list of all the gaskets for the 4.3L and it'* cost in long-block form. You may find it is cheaper to just get a remanufactured 4.3.

Ratcheting wrench is another possibility. I remember those bolts.. 1/4 turn at a time.. came out though.
